Why there is no single calendar
International veterinary guidelines (such as those from WSAVA and ESCCAP) stress that vaccination and deworming should be assessed case by case, according to each animal’s real risk — not applied identically to every pet as a matter of routine.
This doesn’t mean improvising: it means the plan is set by the veterinary team once they know your dog or cat’s specific situation, and it can change over time if their circumstances change.
What shapes your pet’s plan
- Their age and general health.
- Whether they live with, or regularly meet, other animals.
- Whether they go outdoors, to the countryside, the beach, or areas with other animals present.
- Whether they travel with you, within or outside Catalonia.
- The geographic area and time of year, which affect the risk from certain parasites.
Vaccination and deworming aren’t a one-off task
Both are part of ongoing monitoring, not a single visit: that’s why it’s worth reviewing them at every check-up, especially if anything has changed in your pet’s life.
