What we treat
Veterinary dermatology deals with problems of the skin, coat and ears: itching, allergies, recurring ear infections, bald patches, wounds that will not quite heal, and changes in how the skin looks. These are among the most common reasons for consultation in dogs and cats, and among those that most affect daily life, because constant itching lets neither the animal nor the family rest.
Many of these problems are chronic: an allergy is not cured, it is managed. So the approach combines reaching a diagnosis, which may require tests such as skin scrapes, cytology or elimination diets, with a long-term control plan the family can keep up at home.

When to consult
Book a visit if you notice any of these signs:
Scratching, licking or nibbling more than usual, especially paws, belly or the base of the tail.
Bald patches, redness, scabs, dandruff or a bad smell from the skin.
Head shaking, ear scratching or a smelly ear.
A wound or graze that does not close within a few days.

Who runs the dermatology consultation?
Carles Vich, from Dermovet, who comes to Badavet to see the visits. Between visits, follow-up is handled by the clinic team, so there is always someone who knows the case.
Can my dog’s or cat’s allergy be cured?
Most allergies cannot be cured, but they can be managed: the goal is to identify the cause and find the treatment that keeps your pet comfortable on as little medication as possible. It is steady work rather than a quick fix.
What should I bring to the first visit?
Anything that helps reconstruct the story: when it started, which seasons make it worse, what treatments or diets you have tried and how they worked. If you use any product on the skin, better not to apply it right before the visit.
